Carine sits a kilometre or so inland from the coast, but the soil, the housing era and the drainage character all bear coastal influence. The suburb has matured around the Carine Open Space and the original 1970s and 1980s estate layout, and the drainage infrastructure has aged with it. Drains Plus is a Perth drainage specialist with more than 20,000 jobs cleared across the metro, and this page sets out how we approach drainage work in Carine.
Carine falls within the City of Stirling, which manages the local stormwater network and kerbside drainage connections. Most homes in Carine were built from the mid 1970s through the early 1990s, with mature street trees and established landscaping that has been growing alongside the original drain runs for forty or more years. Soils across Carine are Spearwood sand, the yellow brown coastal plain soils that drain fast in dry weather but can saturate after sustained rain. The original housing stock often has a mix of clay and early PVC sewer lines, with stormwater running through PVC to City of Stirling pits at the kerb. The Carine Open Space and the network of public reserves through the suburb mean mature root systems are never far from a residential drain run.
Root intrusion is the dominant problem we deal with in Carine. The combination of mature verge and yard trees, established public reserves, and the age of the original drainage infrastructure means tree roots have had decades to find joints and cracks in the line. We see this most often as recurring blockages that come back a few months after clearing. Once a root mass is in a line, it traps fats, paper and other waste, and the blockage rebuilds quickly. CCTV inspection is the first step on most recurring cases, because it shows us not just where the roots are but how the line itself is holding up. High pressure jetting clears the obstruction effectively, but if the line itself is cracked or has separated joints, pipe relining is the right long term answer. We also see stormwater pit and gully blockages, particularly in the streets closest to the Carine Open Space where leaf litter is heavier through autumn.
Drains Plus operates from Greenwood, a short drive from Carine. For most call outs we can have a plumber on site the same day, and emergency call outs are covered around the clock. We are a single location business with a single Google profile, so when you book through us you are dealing directly with the team that will arrive at your address. Most blocked drain work is covered by our fixed price guarantee, and a free plumbing health check is included on every job. If we cannot clear the drain, our service is free.
We service Carine as part of our wider coverage of the Perth northern suburbs. Nearby suburbs we cover include:

Would use again.Posted on Google Jono PatronTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Ian did a reline for me. Super friendly and proffesional, offered a better price than one or two other plumbing services (I think mainly because he was much smarter about how to tackle it). Covered up the hole, no issues yet - guys a champ.Posted on Google Harry RampantTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The combination of mature established trees, decades old drainage infrastructure, and joints in the line that have had time to move slightly all add up. Roots are drawn to the moisture in sewer lines and only need a hairline crack or a slightly displaced joint to start growing inside. Once roots are established in a line, blockages tend to recur until the underlying access point is sealed.
Recurring blockages at the same location almost always mean there is an underlying problem in the line itself, most often roots or a damaged section. Clearing the blockage solves the symptom but not the cause. A CCTV inspection identifies what is actually going on, and from there we can talk about whether relining or a targeted repair is the right answer.
We work on private residential and commercial drainage anywhere in Carine. The Open Space itself and the public reserves are managed by the City of Stirling, but drainage on properties bordering the reserves often shows the most impact from public tree root systems, and we are well used to that work.
A general plumber covers a broad range of work, from hot water systems to bathroom renovations. We focus on drainage. That means we run camera and jetting equipment on every job, our team sees the same problems repeatedly, and we can usually diagnose what is happening in your line within minutes of arriving on site.
